Thank for stopping by for my stop on the tour.

Goodreads Summary:

T.J. has always looked out for his little sister, Angela. When Momma used to go out and leave them home alone, he'd lock the door so they'd be safe, keep Angela entertained, and get out the cereal and milk for her. When Momma's boyfriend got angry at them, he'd try to protect Angela. Later, at their foster homes, T.J. was the only one who knew how to coax his little sister out of her bad moods. The only one who understood why she made origami paper cranes and threw them out the window.

But now T.J. is sitting in the waiting room at the hospital, wondering if Angela, unconscious after a fall, will ever wake up. Wondering, too, if he will ever feel at home with his and Angela's new parents—Marlene, who insists on calling him Timothy, and Dan, who seems to want a different son.

Going back and forth between Now and Then, weaving the uncertain present with the painful past, T.J.'s story unfolds, and with the unfolding comes a new understanding of how to move forward.

My Review:
This book is like nothing I have read in a long time. The story had me from the first page.I instantly felt for TJ and Angela. You could tell they had a rough life and I wanted to see some happiness for them.Tj was such a strong boy that had to grow up too fast. The author captured the thoughts of a young boy dealing with so much so well I felt drawn into his emotions and cried at some parts with him. That's how sucked into this story I was. This book gave a really intimate look into the lives of foster kids and kids with unfit parents. It really showed what they go through. TJ and Angela deserved some happiness after everything they endured. I am so glad to see the happy ending they received. If you are ready for an emotional rollercoaster ride you have to read this book.

Dawn of Angels Blog Tour by Hollow Tours

Tour with

Title: The Dawn of Angles
Author: Vivieene Malynn & Sean Kade
Publisher: Sutherland Press (January 3,
2012)

Summary:

Left by her mother at a young age, Kyra has
grown-up in the foster system, leaving her angry and hateful towards the world.
The only person she can trust is Hammond, her case worker who has watched over
her since the time her mother left. When Hammond places Kyra in a foster home
located in a small town, strange things begin happening and Kyra starts
unraveling the mystery of her past. When Kyra's life is threatened, she is saved
by an angel, her guardian angel, Ashur, who falls from heaven to save her.
Together, Ashur and Kyra must figure out why her life is in danger and stop a
strange cult from bringing about the end of
days.

Excerpt:

"I didn't just fall from heaven to save your life…" Ashur pulls me in closer
until my chest touches his. "…I came here because after all those years, I could
not spend another moment of eternity knowing that you would not be there."
He begins to sweep his head down toward mine. I know what's coming and I can't
allow it. Turning away, I say, "I can't." My objection is not that I don't love
him, but that I can't love him. He is an angel, I am a mortal. Two worlds that
never have, and never will exist together. "You know as well as I do that this
can never be. No matter how desperately we may want it. What will become of us?"
"I don't know," he says. "I don't care."
"Well, I do," I say. "All this will end and you will have to go back. And I will
be left here alone."
"But…"
"No," I say, sternly. "It's better this way."
Our eyes meet and I look away, but his eyes do not retreat as if they are
holding me in place, preventing me from leaving.

About the Authors:
Vivienne Malynn and Sean Kade are the parents of five lively children and
live in a rural suburb surrounded by eagles and coyotes. They spend their free
time reading, writing, and playing make-believe with their children. In their
not so free time, they teach.

My Review:
This book sucked me in from the start. I instantly fell in love with Kyra.I love heroines that are spunky and outgoing. Kyra fits the bill perfectly. I loved that she was able to stand up for herself. I instantly hoped that a romance would blossom between Kyran and Asher. He was just so sweet and such an awesome person. I liked the take on angels in this book as it really broke down the different rankings. It was nice to see the historical background and the way the authors weaved it into a suspenseful, intriguing, couldn't put down story. I had to keep reading to see how it would end. Overall this was an awesome angel read.

Love Hurts: The Killing of Rose Review

Love hurt: The killing of Rose (Love hurts, #1)Love hurt: The killing of Rose by Holly Hood

Book: Love Hurts
Author: Holly Hood
Publisher: Self-published
Published:December 2011
Format:Ebook
Pages:232
Series or Standalone: Book One in Series

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Goodreads Summary:
In a world forever obsessed with the idea of love lurk creatures straight out of legend—mythical beings that really do go bump in the night.

In a small town located in rural Arizona there are two brothers that are not quite human. They have a deep, dark secret.

For Sam and Frankie life is a constant battle. Love for these two is more than long walks on the beach and those butterflies in your stomach—it’s a blood bath. Sons of an incubus father, they are destined to a life of self-destruction, and staying one step ahead of the law is about all they have to be thankful for. That is, until one of them thinks they’ve finally found a love worth fighting for.
Sam believes he has found his true soul mate. Only problem, if Sam can’t control his urges, being with her just might kill her.

Then there’s Frankie, Sam’s brother, who lives a life of destruction. Women are nothing more than a pastime for him. Life is nothing more than drinking and finding his next victim. In order for Sam to save his soul mate, he must find the strength to overcome his adversity…or no one will come out alive.

How far do you go for the ones you love when love can destroy everything?

My Review:
What a different take on the incubus. I loved the way they were written in this story. I fell in love with Sam from the start. He was such a complex creature. You could tell he felt bad for his actions and really hated what being an incubus entailed. The title summed up Sam well Love really hurts because it made him want to fight aganist his nature. I love that his love for Delaney really pushed him to be better. Frankie was the man you know is bad for you but oh so good too. He was just as flawed as his brother but embraced who he was.He tried to portray tough guy who doesn't need love role but you could feel he did. It was great to see him meet his match and start to open himself up. Holly Hood did an amazing job telling this story from both sides. It was great seeing the different ways the brothers handled themselves. This book was a dark, twisted, and amazing fantasy dream come true. I loved it and read it in one day that is how engrossed I became in the story. Beware of the cliffhanger ending.I have to know what happens next.

Ink by Holly Hood Review

Ink (Ink, #1)Ink by Holly Hood

Book:Ink
Author: Holly Hood
Publisher: Selfpublished
Pages:424
Source: Making Connections Group
Series or Standalone:Standalone

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Goodreads Summary:
Hope didn’t ask for so much change in her life. She was happy living in Georgia for the rest of her life. Focusing on the things she loved the most: singing, dancing, and her best friend Karsen. This was effortless, she had no worries.

But all that changed when her mother decided to leave her dad for Pete, the Tae Kwon do instructor. And now Hope had to choose between staying where she belonged or moving far away to Cherry California with her dad.

After making the choice to move far away, to protect her father, Hope realizes Cherry is nothing like the hometown she’s used to. Everyone is rude, high class and she doesn’t fit in. Not until Slade comes along. He has never fit in and he is okay with that. And Hope is fascinated by everything that Slade is. All the way down to his tattoos and bat wielding rescue the first time they meet.

She knows she should stay far away from him, but it proves tricky as she discovers dark secrets about the town and people in Cherry, California. Hope doesn’t know who to trust as her life takes a turn from ordinary and depressing to dangerous and wild.

My review:

Where do I begin? Ink is the first book I have read by Holly Hood and now I must read all her other books. Ink has it all suspense, romance, mystery and paranormal aspects.Hope was a normal teenager moving to a new area and she meets Slade. Where do I begin with Slade? He is the exact image in my head of a bad boy. I don't think there would have been anyway for Hope to not have fallen under Slade's spell. Slade was such a bad boy but still so sweet to Hope. It was no surprise to learn there was something different about him. Holly Hood pulled off the character of Hope so well. I felt like I was back to my teenage years reliving them with Hope. Hope also had another love interest in Tucker but there wasn't anything I liked about him. He was the normal rich boy that thought everything should go his way. This book kept me up at night because I just had to keep reading to see what would happen next. I loved the vivid descriptions and the way the author captured Hope and Slade's young love. I would recommend this book to others looking for a great book with heart bounding action, romance and suspense mixed in.

Target Audience: Adult

Series or Standalone: Second Book in Lila Gray Series

Expected Publication Date:October 1,2012

About the Book:
Why me?

That’s the question Lila Gray asks every time yet another bad guy tries to destroy the earth, and she learns she’s the only one who can stop it. Once again, something’s on the prowl, leaving hundreds of comatose, souless victims in its wake.

Couldn’t the deadliest assassins of the Otherworld go after someone else instead of the brand new Queen of the Seelie? One who still hasn’t adapted to her new role.

Lila would ask Liam Kane, King of the Unseelie, for advice, but something’s off with him, too. He’s holding back. In some way. About some thing. In fact, he refuses to tell her what’s going on.

The truth holds Lila back from the greatness of her role—the people she was born to lead—the man who she desperately loves—and the solution to the latest war raging around her.

To find the answers, she’ll need to fight through her own darkness and embark on a journey through her psyche.

If she doesn’t succeed, the Shadowborn will claim not only her world, but her soul.

Previous Books in this series include:
The Glass Man (Lila Gray #1)

I hope you liked this cover reveal. I am really interested in reading this book.

The Familial Witch Blog Tour

Welcome to my stop on the blog Tour. I am so glad you are here.

Book: The Familial Witch
Author: Bri Clark
Publisher:Astrea Press
Published:February 2011
Format: E Book
Pages: 34 Pages
Source: Bewitching Book Tours for Blog Tour
Rating: 3 Stars

Excerpt:
Lucien groaned. His head seemed to pound in a rhythm. He opened his eyes to survey his surroundings on instinct. He jumped up, alert. In the process, he knocked over a bowl of water and cursed. He was still in the little cottage. There was no sign of the woman. Bending over to clean up the mess he had made, he caught the fragrance of dried herbs. Sniffing the cloth, he found the source. Then, smelling his forearm, he realized he was the additional source.
A small mirror was positioned on a desk opposite the bed. He inspected himself. There was no trace of his shoulder wound. His skin had healed already. Nevertheless, the silver arrowhead had been within his body for too long. His insides would take longer to heal. It’s like recovering from a poisoning for a mortal. How long have I been asleep? In answer, his stomach ached from the lack of substance. Eternals didn’t have to eat much, but they still needed nourishment. The pounding rhythm started again and he cursed from the ache in his head.
That’s when he realized the rhythm was coming from outside the cottage. Lucien stood on stiff muscles. The smell of peony enticed him again and he followed, as obedient as ever. Walking through the low doorway, he knocked his head and swore again. Stumbling forward, the sun shone in his eyes, blinding him briefly as he went outside. When his vision cleared, he considered he might not be alive for the sight before him was nothing short of angelic.
A statuesque woman stretched her elegant body, turning her face to the sun’s rays. The ivory of her complexion was as soft as a cloud on the breeze. The beams colored her cheeks rose. Chestnut hair was pulled taut in a braid that ended at the small of her back. Her flowing white gown was almost see-through with the sunlight streaming behind it, revealing shapely feminine curves. He smiled in admiration. Lucien was an immortal, but at times, especially lately, he was more of a man than he had ever been. He continued to admire the view that temporarily distracted him from his aching body.
The angel stretched farther with something in her hands. His smile stretched, as well. Then, in one swift movement, she brought down an axe. Two pieces of wood fell over, adding to an already ample pile. The action was so unexpected, so unethereal, that Lucien swore and moved without thought. He stalked over to her and wrenched the axe from her hands.

Goodreads Summary:
Lucien Lemione the clan leader of the feared and revered Eternals is faced with the ultimate betrayal. His second in command for two centuries has not only created the most grievous of offenses but also commissioned the creation of liquid silver. When poisoned by this toxin, an immortal suffers a fate much worse than death, frozen in an internal prison. After being wounded when found spying, he hides deep within the eerie woods that encircle the Triad Mountains. Desperate and in pain, he prays to an offended mother goddess for help. Her answer: a woman, but not just any woman. A witch.

After losing her entire coven at the hands of the Eternals, Aisleen is the last of her kind. She retreats from the world to Trinity Forest where she is giving the opportunity of a lifetime, or perhaps a test of principles. It’s there she discovers the man she heals is the Eternal that wiped out her people. Although she is bound as a healer, she could be creative in her revenge. Aisleen knows who and what Lucien his…but does not speak of it. There can be no future with Lucien for she can only be with a mortal man. Even if she wanted to be with him, can she forgive the man that caused the genocide of her people?

Lucien must act quickly for the survival of his clan is at stake. However, Aisleen’s ethereal beauty and emerald eyes keep pushing those thoughts far from his mind. Determined to find out what secret she hides, he prolongs his time with her. When his people need him most what will he choose…duty, desire, or will he make his own fate?

You can choose love but you can’t choose destiny.

My Review:
Bri Clark has a surefire hit on her hands with this book. I loved this novella. The characters sucked me in from the start and I can't wait to learn more about them. Lucien was so dreamy and hot I understood how Aisleen was so taken with him. He was such a take charge man that was willing to put aside his preconceived notions about witches and offer her help. It was like he was truly under Aisleen's spell. Aisleen was an awesome character in her own right. She was caring, tough, trusting and so sweet while trying to hide her attraction to Lucien. I loved the concept of her being a Familial Witch and being greater than the average witch. You could tell in the actions she took that being a witch was so engrained in her and she was great at what she does. I loved all her inner strength and ability to take care of herself but still not having problems with getting help when needed. Overall this was a great book and I look forward to reading more on Lucien and Aisleen.

About the Author:
Bri Clark is a real example of redemption and renewal. Growing penniless in the South, Bri learned street smarts while caring for her brother in a broken home. She watched her mother work several jobs to care for their small family. Once her brother could fend for himself, Bri moved on to a series of bad choices including leaving school and living on her own.

Rebelliousness was a strong understatement to describe those formative years. She took that opportunity and found a way to moved up from the streets. She ended up co-owning an extremely successful construction business. She lived the high life until the real estate crash when she lost everything.

She moved west and found herself living with her husband and 4 kids in a 900 square foot apartment. She now fills her time, writing, blogging, leading a group of frugal shoppers and sharing her southern culture. Her unique background gives her writing a raw sensibility. Shades of Desire Blog Tour

Welcome to my stop on the Shades of Desire Blog Tour brought to you by Bewitching Tours.

I have tons of great things to show you for this stop. I have an excerpt from the book for you to check out and then I have 2 reviews. I will be reviewing Book one(Shades of Grey) and then Book two (Shades of Desire).

Here's the really cool excerpt from Shades of Desire:

Let’s face it, leading a group of any size requires the help of a lot of people. A group with over a thousand individuals? Definitely going to need some outside help. What better way to make sure that everyone gets along than to have your very own police liaison?

Detective Duprees turned as I opened the door to the informal parlor, no doubt alerted by the slight groan of the hinges. “Ms. Henries?”
“Detective Duprees, right?” I crossed the room to shake his outstretched hand, not surprised to feel calluses. He had the look of someone who spent a lot of time being active even if he wore a jacket and tie now. His dark blond hair looked in need of a cut, his skin a light tan color speaking more to heritage than the sun.
What caught me were his eyes. A brilliant shade of blue, they reminded me of the blue and white china in one of the hundred and one cabinets of the Crossroads. Full of intelligence and directness, you knew right away he took his job seriously.
The bad guys were so in trouble.
“Yes, Ms. Henries. Your assistant no doubt told you why I’m here.” He scanned the assembly at my back before turning his gaze back to me. “I wasn’t aware you’d be bringing a crowd with you.”
I lifted an eyebrow, amused. Gesturing to a seat, I settled into the sofa, left space for Theo on one side and Celia on the other. On our way downstairs, Celia popped out of her bedroom and announced she was ready to go. In the interest of timeliness, nobody argued.
“Introductions, then, before we continue. Theo Rossiere, my….” Well, hell. Boyfriend seemed so juvenile, baby daddy way too ghetto. “My Theo.” I caught his grin out of the corner of my eye. Guess he didn’t mind his title.
“Celia and Elizabeth Malley. Rian Flannery. And you’ve already met Lies.” Now that I thought about it, I didn’t even know if Lies had a last name. Something to find out later. “Now, Detective. Perhaps you’d care to tell me something about Deiadre.”
“Like I said, your assistant has probably told you why I’m here. Ms. McKee was murdered sometime last night. Her personal information said to contact you in case of an emergency.” Those eyes were hyper focused on me now. I wanted to squirm slightly, even though I knew I was in the clear on this. “Not her parents or any other family. But you.”
“Deiadre didn’t have any other family. Her parents died a few years back in a plane crash over the Atlantic.” Good thing Elizabeth had a memory for family trees. Although how serious Detective Duprees would take her when she looked like a tart I didn’t know. “Most of the people of the Covenant who don’t have any family have Ms. Henries listed as emergency contact.”
“The Covenant.” It wasn’t a question, but a statement. “In that case, are you, Ms. Henries, the leader of the Covenant?”
The surprise must have been evident on my face because Duprees continued hastily. “I don’t believe I fully introduced myself. I’m your New Orleans Police Department liaison. Any potential criminal issues you’re involved in, I handle.”
“You’re not the same person I saw at the reading of Gillian’s will.”
“Detective Neasterly was only a few months away from retirement. I’d been his partner for the past two years, so when he took early retirement, the department offered me the position.” Duprees smiled, a touch of humor in the gesture. “Actually, the higher ups begged me. They didn’t want to go through the trouble of explaining everything to someone else.”
“Understandable.” And really, it was. It took me more than a few minutes to wrap my mind around the existence of the Covenant, let alone the extent of how huge it was. I couldn’t begin to imagine how a nice, normal person would take the idea of throwing fire and producing gusts of wind with a thought.
“With all that being said, yes, I’m the leader of the Covenant. Now, can you tell me anything about Deiadre’s death?” If he gave me the crap line about early hours of the investigation and so on, I’d have to seriously control my temper. I didn’t like cryptic when things actually were kind of crypticy. Cryptic when it involved people dying really pushed my buttons.
“She was found in St. Louis No.1 by a group of tourists, earlier this morning.”
“She didn’t go there willingly.” Every head in the room turned in Rian’s direction. “Deiadre hated the cemetery. She wouldn’t have gone there at night for any reason, I guarantee it.”
Duprees looked like he wanted to ask a question or two, but decided against it. If he’d spent any time with the Covenant, he probably knew random statements weren’t really random. “That’s the same conclusion that we reached, Mr. Flannery. The cemetery was merely the dump site, which leaves us with more than a few problems.”
“Such as?” Theo’s hand tightened ever so subtly around my shoulders, his heat bumping up a notch.
“Well, the first would be why Deiadre. The second would be why the cemetery. But the big one would be why she was completely exsanguinated.”
Even the high school drop-out knew what that meant. “Not a drop of blood left in her?”
Duprees’ eyes stayed steady on mine. “Not one.”
Well, hell. “I think you should take us to the cemetery.”

Goodreads Summary:

Jude Magdalyn Henries lives what many would call an unconventional life.

Orphaned at birth, raised by nuns, a teenage runaway living on the streets… she now earns a living at odd jobs, including one as a fake tarot card reader. Very little about Jude’s life appears normal, by any scale. When she accepts a gig to do a private reading, unconventional takes on an entirely new meaning.

Life as she knows it ends when she’s thrust into a world she never knew existed—one filled with magic, vampires, and her beloved New Orleans on the verge of an underground war. To make matters worse, she's got two men in her life vying for attention, Williams and Theo. Both call to a different part of her, but one scares her just a little bit. Can she step up to the challenges set before her and make the right choices for the greater, which may or not be the greater good?

My Review:
I fell in love with this book from the beginning. I loved Jude. She is such a take charge heroine that holds no punches. I loved her implusive and fiery spirit. She was so snarky and sarcastic too and it was so hilarious to hear the things that she would say. It was great to see her come into her powers and learn how powerful she really was. I love that she and Theo just clicked so easily and fit so seamlessly into each others lives. They were willing to look past each others faults. All the other characters were really cool also especially Celia. I could just picture her being a little pint size terror. This book was a really wonderful surprise for me. I loved it and got a fix of some of my favorite things I love in a good book romance, suspense, historical elements and friendships. It was also cool to have the New Orleans backdrop for the setting. Overall this was a great read and I highly recommend it.

All I wanted was a little peace and quiet.

Instead, I've got dead Covenant members and a steady stream of letters from the new guy in town. His beverage of choice? A 2002 Merlot, with a shot or two of powerful virgin blood.

On top of that, I'm breaking in a new police liaison, failing at playing matchmaker, and fighting nausea like it's a full time job. All I wanted was a little peace and quiet.

Did I forget to mention that I've also got enough girls living at the Crossroads to start my own boarding school?

Peace and quiet? Out the window.

My Review:
I loved this book more than the first one. Jude was back in all her snarky glory amped up by news of her pregnancy. I loved how the pregnancy brought Theo and Jude even closer and made them more parental. It was cute watching them finally reign in little Celia. Jude seemed to really come into her own more in this book. It was like the babies brought a new side to of her out. I loved that this book centered around an actual major historical event. It was so great to see this story play out the way it did in the book. It was also nice to see Jude really use her powers in amazing ways. Overall I liked this book as well. I can't wait for the next book in this series to see where the birth of the babies takes Jude and Theo next. I have a feeling they will be powerful in their own right. Bravo LM Pruitt for an amazing series. I can't wait to read more from this fabulous author.

Brother Number Three Blog Tour

Thanks for stopping by for my stop on the Brother Number Three Blog Tour.

Author: Judy Serrano
Published:June 15,2011
Publisher: Black Rose Writing
Source: Ebook for Blog Tour from EverAfter PR
3 Stars

Goodreads Summary:
Coming in third place was something that was all too familiar to Hector Montiago. As his strength and grounding personality pushes him into first place with the woman he loves, lines are crossed and sides are chosen.

In this second book of the series, Brother Number Three depicts family ties in a light unequal to any other. Lilly tells the story of how the brothers unite in the effort to recover her missing son, as blood becomes both the indestructible bond that holds them together and the opposing force that pushes them apart. Read on as they fight temptation while the enemies of the Montiago cartel unleash their wrath, only to discover that the true danger lies within.

My Review:
Ok I have to start this out by saying I really tried to overlook some of the things I didn't like about the book. I like the book on the whole because it has a great premise and great plot but there are some things I can't get past. This book had way too much bed hopping for my tastes. I loved Lilly in the first book because of her willingness to fight for what she wanted most in life which was love. I thought she had found it with Max and then she was back to bed hopping again. I can't understand her clignyness and need to move from one to the other. Now that I have gotten that out of the way I can get to what I did like. I loved how this book focused on Hector more and we got to learn more about him. Hector was such a sweetie under the rough enforcer exterior he portrayed. I again loved to see the brothers love for each other and the way they band together to overcome obstacles and their enemies. I loved the fast pace of the story and the fast moving and kept me guessing plot. This story again hooked me and I had to keep reading to see what would happen next. Of course there was another major cliffhanger ending so stay tuned for my blog stop on April 11th for Relativey Close (Book 3).

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted every week by Jill at http://breakingthespine.blogspot.com/. It is a chance to spotlight upcoming releases we are waiting on.

This week I am waiting on Spell Bound.

Goodreads Summary:

Hailed as “impossible to put down,” the Hex Hall series has both critics and teens cheering. With a winning combination of romance, action, magic and humor, this third volume will leave readers enchanted.

Just as Sophie Mercer has come to accept her extraordinary magical powers as a demon, the Prodigium Council strips them away. Now Sophie is defenseless, alone, and at the mercy of her sworn enemies—the Brannicks, a family of warrior women who hunt down the Prodigium. Or at least that’s what Sophie thinks, until she makes a surprising discovery. The Brannicks know an epic war is coming, and they believe Sophie is the only one powerful enough to stop the world from ending. But without her magic, Sophie isn’t as confident.

Sophie’s bound for one hell of a ride—can she get her powers back before it’s too late?

I loved both of these books and couldn't wait for the next one to be released. After my long wait from last year the book is finally here. Look for my upcoming review on this one.

What are you waiting for?

Pretty Amy Cover Reveal

It's cover reveal day for a new book being published by Entangled Publishing.

Blurb:

Amy is fine living in the shadows of beautiful Lila and uber-cool Cassie, because at least she’s somewhat beautiful and uber-cool by association. But when their dates stand them up for prom, and the girls take matters into their own hands—earning them a night in jail outfitted in satin, stilettos, and Spanx—Amy discovers even a prom spent in handcuffs might be better than the humiliating “rehabilitation techniques” now filling up her summer. Worse, with Lila and Cassie parentally banned, Amy feels like she has nothing—like she is nothing.

Navigating unlikely alliances with her new coworker, two very different boys, and possibly even her parents, Amy struggles to decide if it’s worth being a best friend when it makes you a public enemy. Bringing readers along on an often hilarious and heartwarming journey, Amy finds that maybe getting a life only happens once you think your life is over.

About the author:
Lisa Burstein is a tea seller by day and a writer by night. She wrote her first story when she was in second grade. It was a Thanksgiving tale from the point of view of the turkey from freezer to oven to plate. It was scandalous.

She was a lot like Amy when she was in high school.

She is still a lot like Amy.

The Gates

The Gates (The Resistance Trilogy, #2)The Gates by Rachael Wade

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Publisher: Rabbit Hole Press
Expected Publication Date: April 2012
Source: Goodreads Shut Up and Read R2R Program

Goodreads Summary:
Paranormal Fantasy Romance

Getting There is Half the Battle...

Armed with more unsettling knowledge about Gavin Devereaux and her circle of friends, Camille Hart is faced with new adversities and lethal propositions when she returns to the Amaranth exile to carry out Gavin’s risky crusade.

Realizing her journey through the bayou was only the beginning of her struggle to stay with Gavin, she finds that leaving her Louisiana home is the least of her worries. New evils await her on the other side, and as she and her friends press on with their mission, they are confronted with the reality that everything doesn't always go according to plan.

As secrets unfold and alliances are formed and broken, only the strongest will survive and the power of love will be tested when a war between witches, humans, and vampires erupts into an all-out power struggle and all is on the verge of being lost.

My Review:
Once again I was amazed. Rachael Wade has created another amazing read.I absoultely loved the first book in this series and couldn't wait to read this one. Camille amazed me again with her strength and determination. She is still an awesome character and with a fierce protectiveness for those she loves. The thing I loved with this book is we got more backstory on the other characters. I loved seeing Joel and Arianna's relationship through Arianna's eyes. Arianna became another character I fell in love with. I even found myself feeling sorry for and sympathizing with Samira after knowing more about her motives. I am so happy that this book had more of a backgroung based in Amaranth. We got to see more about how the people that live there lived and felt about being there. I was great to ger a more descriptive feel and vibe for it from this book. I love that Camille and Gavin's relationship grew more and they are finally getting a happy ending eventhough they still have hurdles ahead of them. I love the new character of Cecile. She was so powerful in her own right. Overall I loved this book as much as the first book. It was another wonderful ride and another great read. I can't wait to see where book 3 takes us.

Witchy Witchy Review

Witchy, WitchyWitchy, Witchy by Penelope King

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Published:January 12,2012
Source:GoodreadsPNR &UF Read to Review Program

Goodreads Summary:
Book #1 in the SPELLBOUND trilogy

When sixteen-year-old-Calista moves from the slums of the Louisiana Bayou to an illustrious beach side community in California, she knew her life was going to take a drastic change. But once she arrives at the beautiful mansion by the sea, dark secrets are revealed...secrets that become even more complicated when she meets the gorgeous neighbor boy, Nicholas, and she feels an unexplainable--and undeniable--attraction. He's everything she's ever dreamed of. Literally.

Life almost seems perfect. But as everyone knows, when something seems too good to be true...it usually is. And in Calista's case, the results could be deadly.

Witchy, Witchy is a full-length paranormal romance/fantasy novel. Book #2 in the Spellbound series, Kiss the Crystal Sun, will be available spring 2012

My review:
This was an enchanting and spellbinding read.I think Penelope King cast a spell on me because I couldn't put this book down. Callie was an amzing heroine. I like that she was so headstrong eventhough she was dropped into a new world she knew nothing about. I felt that Callie was Cinderella but she got to live more than one night. Callie really comes into her own in this story and learns a lot about herself. I love that she has some true friends to help her on the journey to becoming a powerful witch. I loved Nicholas but am a little put iff by some of his actions. I love the concept of him and Callie though and would love to see more of their relationship. I have to say I came into this book expecting great things because I love the other works by this author and I wasn't disappointed. This book was amazing and such a great witch tale.

About the Book:

Initiation
By Imogen Rose
Genre: paranormal YA

DESCRIPTION

Welcome to Bonfire Academy!

Set in the foothills of the alpine mountains in St.Moritz, this exclusive private school caters to a special kind of student. Enter at your own risk... but if you are human, you may not want to enter at all.

WARNING: This YA story is set in a school for paranormals who are very different from normal human teens. Thus, the language and some scenes might not be appropriate for younger YA readers. Recommended for those sixteen and above.

Check out what the reviewers have to say:

Let me lay it out for you. This is a five star book. Period. Heck, I think nearly all of Imogen Rose’s books are five stars in my eyes so far. It’s kind of crazy. Did the author make a deal with the devil or something to get this level of pure talent or what? Or maybe one of these demons from this book? Hmmm… Candy Beuchamp (Candy’s Raves)

‘It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation." - Herman Melville

That one phrase changed my life, AND my perception of what people expected. So I wrote it down, in a little black book, and put it in my purse. Now, I can't tell you exactly how many times I have read that 1 phrase since I wrote it down, but every time I read a book, and then bask in the brilliance of it's originality I think of Herman and his wise advice. THEN...I think of the authors that exude this quality more than most. Imogen Rose is one of these authors.- KindleObsessed

A Red Adept Select book (voted "Outstanding in Genre"-YA)

Meet Imogen Rose

Imogen Rose is the author of the bestselling YA series, the Portal Chronicles. She was born in a small town in Sweden and moved to London in her twenties. After obtaining a PhD in immunology from Imperial College, she moved with her family to New Jersey, where she’s been based for the past ten years.

For as long as she can remember, Imogen has dreamt stories. Stories that continued from night to night, from dream to dream. So, even as a child, going to bed was never an issue, just an anticipation of the story to come.

PORTAL, Imogen’s first novel, would have remained in her imagination, to be shared only with her daughter, Lauren, had her eight-year-old not insisted that she write it down. In the course of a month, Imogen typed while Lauren waited eagerly by the printer for the pages to appear, and a novel took shape.

The warm reception PORTAL received encouraged her to continue with the story and the Portal Chronicles. The Bonfire Chronicles is Imogen’s new YA paranormal series.

Imogen is a self-confessed Hermès addict who enjoys shopping, traveling, watching movies and playing with her dog, Tallulah.

Ok now on to this wonderful excerpt:

“Well, Cordelia, are you glad to be back?”
“Yes. Why did you ask for me?”
“Ah, straight to the point.” His eyes narrowed into slits. “Very plucky. Most would have the sense to be more fearful and not ask questions,” he growled softly.
I held my breath, controlling my instincts. A snarl was always a signal for me to transform. But, I held back, on full alert.
“I was told that about you. And that’s one of the reasons you’re here. You’ve been appointed as a mentor.”
It was my turn to smirk. I got to my feet. “I can’t be appointed anything. Thanks for thinking of me, though. I guess it’s some kind of honor. But, no thanks.” I made my way to the door.
And crashed right into Jagger’s chest. I should have anticipated his move; lightning-fast location transfer was something covered in the first semester. I clumsily stepped back, then met his darkened gaze.
He lowered his head, brushing his nose along my neckline, breathing me in. I stood dead still, letting my fingers fuse. I shivered as his lips found my right ear, his every breath forming icicles against my skin. Then, he touched my fused fingers.
“Easy, demon princess. Relax.”
I boiled over with anger. Who the fuck did he think I was? Some silly human girl who’d melt under his pathetic attempt at intimidation? Not so.
“Step back, and I will.” My words were supposed to come out in a firm demonic growl, but instead, they slithered out in an unfortunate raspy whisper.
He chuckled under his breath and took a half step back. He needed to be taught not to mess with demons. Slapping the smirk off his face would be too much of a cliché. My mischievous demon instincts took over.
As the corners of his lips curled into a leer, I jerked up my arm and swiftly wrapped my fingers around the back of his neck, pulling his face down to mine. His eyes widened in surprise, but he made no move to resist as I stood on tiptoes and roughly parted his lips with mine. I kept my eyes wide open, gazing into his, as I explored his mouth, drinking him in. He yielded under my touch. The kiss became more and more fervent, until a surge of hot and cold, of terror and excitement, zapped through me–and him, by the surprise on his face–leaving us shocked and unable to move. Our eyes remained locked together as we stood suspended in time.
Jagger looked as dazed as I felt. His eyes searched mine, but I had nothing to offer, no explanation. Then, it hit me. Dad had mentioned the extremely rare phenomenon. I raked through my mind, trying to remember what he had said.
Listen for his heartbeat, synch with it.

I loved this excerpt because it showed the making of a chance of a Cordelia Jagger romance. What did you think? Did you like it? Now onto my review.

My Review:
At first glance at the new cover for this book I was drawn in. The cover is just delightful.Initiation is a book about Bonfire Academy a school for aparanormals to learn about their abilities and hope to cope with them. The descritptions used to describe the school are so vivid they paint such a lovely visual for readers. The school sounds so enchanting and like such a beautiful place. We start off by meeting Cordelia who is a demon princess.Cordelia sucked me in right away because she is fearless and kick butt. She jumps right into the action headfirst to help a girl she is mentoring named Faustine. Faustine is apparently a demon/human hybrid princess who is there to learn about her powers. I liked her from the beginning too. She had such a cool personality and wasn't easily intimidatedby others eventhough she was in way over her head. She was able to hold her own. We also meet Jagger and Quinn who are both helping keep Faustine safe. Jagger strikes me as the more brooding strong silent type and Quinn is more like the boy next door type. I loved both boys for different reasons and will be waiting to see how it all plays out. This book had it all with the paranormal aspects, suspense, romance, and friendships. Its a great read and it was nice seeing the kids learning to deal with their abilities along with normal teenage hormones. This book has the potential to become a really good series and I have to say Imogen Rose has done it again. This book was captivating and kept me hooked from beginning to end.
