And he'll do whatever it takes to bring her back- this time as his queen.
As Nikki's time grows short and her relationships begin slipping from her grasp, she's forced to make the hardest decision of her life: find a way to cheat fate and remain on the Surface with Jack or return to the Everneath and become Cole's..
The first thing that caught my eye about this book was the spectular cover. The picture was amazing and the red dress was so vibrant against the rest of the book. I decided to read this book after I heard so many great reviews about it. I have to say I wasn't disappointed. This book lived up to the hype.
I love mythology books and this one is a retelling of the Persephone & Hades tale. We start this book out by meeting Nikki and Cole. The world building in this book was incredible. The Everneath seemed so real. The author really did an excellent job of depicting it.
We learn that Nikki only has a certain amount of time left before she will be doomed to the Everneath forever. She decides to spend what little time she has left back with her family while she can. We are introduced to Cole who wants her to stay with him and eventually rule Everneath. I felt drawn to Cole and could see why Nikki was drawn to him at first. He is the broody, mysterious guy that girls fall for. He just had a way about him that can appeal to girls that love bad boys. I felt that underneath the facade he really cared for Nikki though.
We find out as Nikki gets into her normal routine again that the boy she left behind Jack is still in love with her. I loved Jack early on. He seemed to really love Nikki for who she was faults and all. I loved how she gor through her time in the Everneath by never forgetting Jack. Their love was just so easy and geniue. They were just made to be together.
As the story continues there are some twists that threw me for a loop. I can say the author wrote an amazing story and this was a great take on an old tale. I cried at the ending and was just as heartbroken as Nikki. I love great cliffhanger endings and this one didn't dissappoint. I definitely can't wait until the next book comes out.
Overall this is a must read. The writing was superb. The story was paced just right and wasn't too fast or slow. I loved all the mystery that was weaved into the book along with the amazing romance. I can't wait to see how Nikki and Jack's story plays out. I also can't wait to learn more about Cole and what he will do now. This book is highly recommend and a great read for lovers of mythology,
